🗺 Detailed map of the Global Reef Expedition dive sites, Milman and Alpin Reefs, northern Great Barrier Reef (Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation; opens in a new window)
Global Reef Expedition station AUMM86 on Milman Reef, far northern Great Barrier Reef (-11.1975, 143.0386), surveyed on 18 September 2014. The site falls within a strict no-take Preservation Zone. The expedition's own site table classifies AUMM86 as an inner open lagoon reef on an intermediate aspect.
Alongside the hard coral already reported for this site, the same transects recorded 1.7% crustose coralline algae, 8.8% turf, 1.0% macroalgae, and 0.5% cyanobacteria. Non-living substrate came to 1.9% dead coral, 2.7% rubble, and 11% sand. These figures come from the expedition's own 933-site benthic master and are survey results, not photographic estimates.
Paired fish transects recorded about 22 fish species per transect and about 4.6 kg per 100 m2 of biomass.
