Setting
Lab / modelled / literature studies carry the
lab's coordinates, not a reef — that is why they land in Europe. A probiotic
developed in Germany and tested on a reef shows at the reef only if the paper was
coded field or mixed.
Tested robustly in the field, with
replication and appropriate controls.
No single location, so no pin — a global
synthesis or a national programme review does not belong at one reef. Tick this to add them
to the table below.
Rigor
BACI = Before–After–Control–Impact:
the site is measured both before and after the intervention and against an
untreated control site. It is the only common design that separates the intervention from
background change, which is why so few studies qualify. Control + baseline = BACI + before/after + inside/outside. This is about study
design, not location — it is independent of the Setting filter above. A reef
study with no control or baseline is field-tested but cannot attribute cause.
Color by
Efficacy is the authors' own verdict,
not a re-analysis. Only meaningful on the causal-design tier — switch Rigor above.
BACI is 115 studies worldwide (94 mapped), so per-region values are a handful of papers.
